Special Feature - The Sentry and Invisible Children
Invisible Children
Invisible Children is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2004 by three young filmmakers who wanted to raise awareness and end the violence of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in central Africa3. The LRA, led by Joseph Kony, has been responsible for abducting, killing, and displacing millions of people, especially children, in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan4.
Invisible Children's mission is to partner with local peacebuilders across central Africa to end violent conflict through locally-led solutions1. They work with trusted local organizations and community leaders to provide crisis mapping and conflict analysis, community-based early warning and response, local peace committee development, escapee support and reunification, and media-based community sensitization2.
Some of their partners include The Resolve LRA Crisis Initiative, The Enough Project, USAID, and the U.S. Department of State2 5. They also collaborate with civil society groups and filmmakers in central Africa to amplify their voices and stories2.
If you want to get involved or partner with Invisible Children, you can join their IC Citizen program, which is a network of activists who advocate for peace and justice in central Africa6. You can also donate, fundraise, volunteer, or apply for a job or internship with them7. You can find more details on their website1 or contact them directly8.

The Sentry
The Sentry is an investigative and policy organization that seeks to disable multinational predatory networks that benefit from violent conflict, repression, and kleptocracy1. It was founded in 2015 by actor George Clooney and human rights activist John Prendergast, who also co-founded Invisible Children's partner organization, The Enough Project2. The Sentry focuses on exposing the financial and transnational links of corrupt elites, armed groups, and criminal networks that fuel and exploit violence in Africa1. Some of the countries that The Sentry works on are Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and the Central African Republic3. The Sentry also advocates for policy solutions and sanctions to disrupt and dismantle these networks and promote peace and human rights1.
